How to use your URC remote

A quick tutorial on how to use your universal mx series remote control

Always start by pressing the WATCH button. It is located on the upper middle section of the remote below the LCD screen on the right side. This is your starting page for watching anything on television: DVD, Cable/Satellite, game system, AppleTV/ipod video etc. Basically anything you will see visually on your tv set. The top of the remote tells you which device you are controlling or if you are on the WATCH or LISTEN page. The LISTEN page is to the left of the WATCH button. Always look at the top section of the remotes LCD screen if you are lost and return to the WATCH page when you want to start over or select a new device to control. Use the lower half of the remote to control devices selected from either the watch or listen page.

LISTEN

The LISTEN button typically controls the secondary ZONES and any audio devices or multi-zone devices which you may have in your house. There may also be a SURROUND button which will give you access to the various surround modes you may have on your receiver.

To use these LISTEN devices, always turn your system ON from the main WATCH page and begin using your system as you would normally do. Then, press the LISTEN button to select and enable audio control or enable ZONE 2 audio.

Turn ON or OFF the ZONE 2 as needed by selecting the LISTEN button and then pressing the ON or OFF button from the top of the Universal Remote. Control ZONE 2 volume levels by selecting the LISTEN button then using the volume up or down buttons. Turn off the ZONE 2 by selecting the LISTEN button OFF.

Select the ZONE 2 source by selecting LISTEN, then press the button labeled ZONE 2. From the ZONE 2 page select an audio source to listen to in ZONE 2.

Use the lower half of the remote to control devices etc etc. The volume will typically always control the main sitting area receiver unless you are on the LISTEN page or on a ZONE 2 page, then it will be controlling audio source and volume levels coming from the second ZONE. Always return to the WATCH page when done to operate the main TV sitting area.

WATCH

The ON and OFF buttons from the WATCH page typically turns on or off your receiver and your television set together. These are the brains of your home theater. Everything else is turned on manually and as used. We usually recommend leaving the cable and satellite boxes on for quicker viewing, recording and overall ease of operation.

To turn on other devices such as your DVD, Aplle TV, or PS3, select that device to turn on from the main WATCH menu and turn on the individual device by press the ON or OFF buttons. Make sure the device you want to control is listed at the very top section of the remote screen to assure you are using or powering on or off the right device.

Return to the WATCH page to select a new device to watch. Selecting devices from the main WATCH page changes receiver inputs as well as jumps to the control page for that device. It will be listed at the top section or the remote screen instead of WATCH. If one device is accidentally turned on or off by itself return to that individual device by again selecting it from the main WATCH page and manually turning it on or off.

Again, make sure the device you select is listed at the very top section of the remote instead of WATCH to assure you are powering on or off the right device. Keep using the remote and it will become second nature after awhile. You won't be able to live without it after a few days!
